Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte visited the Saone et Loire town of Autun several times. On one of these visits, he and Josephine were served by the well born ladies of the town, who were so keen to get a close look at the Emperor that they accepted servants’ roles for the night. His last visit to the town wasn’t so happy, however; on his way back from exile in Elba, he stopped at Autun, but as there were few residents there to welcome him, he flew into a rage with the local mayor and left, never to return.
