Macon Wine Fair

Macon, Saone et Loire, is a town of 40,000 inhabitants known for its annual wine fair, which has taken place on the 20th of May since 1305. Its origins as a regional event have long since been forgotten, and these days the fair is an international affair. The fair’s renown has been increased by the naming every second year of the winner of the “Grand Prix Lamartine”, a major literary prize established by the town in conjunction with the administrators of the wine fair.
